چکیده

patients warranted additional i.v. anaesthetic prior to application of the electrical stimulus. Fortunately, neither of the patients reported awareness of the procedural events. Consequently, we no longer use bispectral index monitoring alone to assess pre-ictal anaesthetic depth in patients receiving ECT. Moreover, Zand and colleagues recently reported that the BISwas not a reliable monitorof anaesthetic depth during Caesarean section and that BIS values lower than previously recommended are needed to avoid isolated extremity responses. They suggest, for a sensitivity of 100%, that the BIS value should be lower than 27 to ensure that all patients are truly unconscious.

Effects on the bispectral index during elective caesarean section: a comparison of propofol and isoflurane.

BACKGROUND Awareness during general anesthesia has been a particular problem during caesarean section. About 7 percent of patients undergoing elective caesarean section have reported dreaming or recall of voices during the procedure. The bispectral index (BIS), a value derived from the electroencephalogram (EEG), has been shown to be useful in monitoring the depth of anesthesia. Supplementation...

A prospective, randomized comparison of the effects of thiopental and propofol on bispectral index during caesarean section till delivery of newborn.

BACKGROUND Since in caesarean operations skin incision to delivery time is very short, induction agent could be still effective on BIS level till the time of delivery. Therefore this study was designed to analyze the effect on maintaining adequate bispectral index levels till delivery of neonate of propofol and thiopental as an induction agent for caesarean section. METHODS Eighty two patient...

Magnesium sulphate has beneficial effects as an adjuvant during general anaesthesia for Caesarean section.

BACKGROUND The use of low concentrations of volatile anaesthetics with avoidance of opioids may induce intraoperative awareness and adverse haemodynamic responses during Caesarean section. Magnesium is well known to reduce anaesthetic requirements and to block noxious stimuli. We investigated whether i.v. magnesium sulphate modulates anaesthetic depth and analgesic efficacy during Caesarean sec...

Evaluation of the Adequacy of General Anesthesia in Cesarean Section by Bispectral Index

Background: Awareness and recall, though not common, are the major hazards of general anesthesia, especially in Cesarean section (C/S) because of the absence of benzodiazepine and opioids for a significant time during anesthesia. In this study, the Bispectral Index (BIS), end-tidal isoflurane, and hemodynamic parameters were examined to evaluate the depth of the routine general anesthetic techn...

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Surveyon the adequacyof depth of anaesthesia with bispectral index and isolated forearm technique in elective Caesarean section under general anaesthesia with sevoflurane

Editor’s key points † Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring is commonly used to monitor depth of anaesthesia. † The authors studied parturients in whom standard techniques were used for general anaesthesia for Caesarean section. † The isolated forearm test was used to study the ability of the BIS to detect consciousness. † BIS values below 60 were commonly associated with IFT responses, particularl...
